What is the BCM body control module used for? Why force the Endless SR150GT to be recalled again?
Recently, the Infinite SR150GT has released a recall announcement, eh? Why is it again? The announcement indicates that there are some issues with the BCM module of this car, which may lead to battery loss, vehicle alarm without reason, and incorrect display of time and speed after power failure. Overall, it is not right, making it difficult for people to ride comfortably.

Seeing this, I believe many people, even some car owners of the SR150GT, may find it difficult to understand. What is the BCM management module? What is this malfunction? Why don't I have these problems riding a fake scooter? Riding a water-cooled pedal produced by a large factory actually makes me unhappy? Today, let's talk about this topic

Firstly, it can be confirmed that even if we ride conventional air-cooled pedals produced by small factories or low-end water-cooled pedals, we will not encounter this problem because not every car has a BCM management module.

So, what is a BCM management module?

Simply put, the BCM management module, also known as the body control module, was born to better control the power circuit of the entire vehicle. We can think of it as a patch panel that connects various electronic components related to the vehicle, such as vehicle lights, instruments, keyless start modules, horns, and vehicle anti-theft devices.

What's the use of this thing?

With the BCM management module, motorcycles can not only optimize line layout, but also achieve operations such as automatic headlights, monitoring vehicle status at any time, keyless start, remote unlocking, and protecting the battery during low voltage.

On the Infinity SR150GT scooter, the BCM module also incorporates a vehicle anti-theft system. According to Infinity, this recall is also due to a logic issue with the BCM module, which can lead to abnormal battery consumption.

How is the battery consumed?

To clarify this matter, we need to first use handheld GPS for outdoor exploration as an example. The power consumption of GPS is directly proportional to its refresh time. For example, if I buy this device and go out to record my cycling trajectory, if I set it to transmit refresh data every 5 minutes, my power may not be used up for a day, and there is no deviation in the route trajectory on the map.

However, if I change the refresh time to 2 minutes or 30 seconds, my route trajectory will not change significantly, but my device's battery life may not last for even half a day because the higher the refresh frequency, the greater the power consumption of the device, and the same applies to the motorcycle's anti-theft system.

The refresh rate is not necessarily better, but should be set in conjunction with the driving environment.

The anti-theft system of motorcycles also has its own preset refresh rate. If the system is divided into two levels: "active" and "regular" by level, then the working logic of the motorcycle anti-theft system is generally like this.

When the anti-theft system is in "active" mode, the system has the highest refresh rate.

The advantage is that you can receive a vehicle alarm in a timely manner in case of any disturbance. For example, if someone removes your caliper and uses a wrench to exert force on the vehicle, your anti-theft device can sense that the vehicle's status is different from the previous second, and then issue an alarm; When someone maliciously scratches your car, the anti-theft device can also alarm, which is actually quite impressive.

The downside is that due to being too sensitive, someone may accidentally touch your car, and even if the wind blows harder, you will receive the vehicle's alarm signal because the anti-theft system may mistakenly think that someone is stealing/damaging your beloved car. At this time, you not only need to be constantly on guard and be careful of vehicle injuries, but also pay extra attention to battery loss, because the faster the anti-theft system refreshes, the higher the power consumption.

When the anti-theft system is in "normal" mode, the refresh rate of the system will also be relatively normal.

The advantage is that your car will no longer be affected by any interference and the alarm will start. The anti-theft system will only start working unless someone lifts the car away or causes the body to oscillate significantly. This setting is most suitable for regular daily driving situations, while also ensuring that the battery loss is not too large.

The downside is that when you receive the alarm message, your scooter is likely to have been ridden/moved away, and you can only watch the GPS signal getting farther and farther away from yourself.

The SR150GT is the first scooter to adopt the BCM system in Infinity, and there are two possible reasons for this malfunction.

1. There is a high probability of local vehicles being stolen during vehicle testing.

As a Chongqing motorcycle enterprise, most of the testing of Wuji's cars is done in the Sichuan Chongqing area. Coincidentally, I have also lived in Chongqing, and the most impressive thing about the area is that I can see vehicles stolen in the motorcycle group every week and seek help from motorcycle enthusiasts. In addition, there is a large stronghold in Sichuan that sells stolen goods and robs cars in Tibetan areas, which is also a major pain point that has caused car owners in Sichuan and Chongqing to suffer first.

The probability of such theft cases occurring in places such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin is much lower and almost impossible to encounter. Therefore, it is not ruled out that engineers have roughly set the highest refresh rate for anti-theft devices in order to prevent vehicles from being stolen as much as possible. However, engineers may overlook that thieves are not divine thieves, and no matter how high the sensitivity is, it should not be divorced from actual driving situations.

2. There are deficiencies in the vehicle testing process.

SR150GT is not the first time a recall event has occurred. Although the issue is not significant, various details can reflect that there are indeed shortcomings in the vehicle testing process of Wuji. We will look back at Wuji's recall notice, which states that it is prone to power loss.

Under what circumstances will there be a power loss?

It must be because the battery cannot be replenished, and the positioning of the scooter results in a relatively short riding distance and low charging efficiency when commuting in cities. Once the power consumption increases, it will have an impact on startup to some extent. This also reflects from the side that the testing process should not only stay on the basis of daily cycling, but also take into account the vehicle status during parking, restoring the user's real driving scene and environment.

For first-line manufacturers, this incident should not have happened, but for first-line manufacturers who first manufacture scooters, this incident is also understandable. After all, not every SR150GT has experienced power loss. Therefore, my understanding of this issue is that there are deficiencies in testing and there is no need to interpret it excessively.

However, everything has two sides, and after the fact, Infinite has also made a recall and compensation, extending the warranty for one year, providing a free maintenance, and replacing abnormal parts for free. Although there are not many things given, there is still sincerity.

The biggest feature of the SR150GT is that it is produced by a large factory and its price is cheaper compared to other competitors. At this time, the recall and after-sales policies of Wuji can also highlight the importance of the former, and if something goes wrong, it will be recognized. Moreover, this kind of deficiency will ultimately lead Wuji to a more complete stage, and everything related to it will become better and better.

If you want to buy the SR150GT, you don't have to be intimidated by the recall. It really shouldn't have happened, and engineers should even be punished for it. Fortunately, it's not a big problem, and you can still buy it. Moreover, the recall gift given by Wuji is also considered generous, and the merits and demerits are equal.

However, as a top tier manufacturer, how to test and improve products before they are launched in the future, rather than spending money on remedial measures afterwards, is a question that needs to be carefully considered.
